The Student Welfare Organisations in Norway Take Proactive Steps Towards Sustainability: Implement Millum's CO2 Calculator and Food Waste Function

Norway's student welfare organisations have recently strengthened their commitment to reduce their carbon footprint and combat food waste. As long-time users of Millum's procurement system, they have now taken the initiative to utilize both their CO2 calculator and food waste function. This is a positive step towards sustainable practices, and Millum is excited to support all student welfare organisations in Norway in offering more environmentally friendly food to students across the country.

CO2 Calculator to Meet Increasing Demands in the Industry and Among Students

Increased demand for CO2 labeling from both the industry and students motivated the student welfare organisations in Norway to take action. However, managing the challenge of calculating the carbon footprint for all the food they served proved to be a complex task. The solution was to implement an additional service in their procurement system, Millum. With the help of Millum's CO2 calculator, they now have access to the carbon footprint of all the products used in food service.

The CO2 calculator helps us make conscious, informed, and sustainable choices in menu planning. It's satisfying to move from believing to knowing the actual climate impact our dishes have. Climate labeling of food is something students appreciate and is here to stay.

Millum collaborates with both Klimatoand RISE (Research Institutes of Sweden), Sweden's research institute and innovation partner, to have several reliable databases to choose from to retrieve climate data for the CO2 calculator. This is done with the purpose of offering customers a variety of reliable sources to choose from.

Increased Focus on Reducing Food Waste

In addition to labeling products with the correct CO2 footprint, the student welfare organisations identified the need to reduce food waste as a central part of their sustainability initiatives. Millum's procurement system also offered a practical solution to address this challenge. Therefore, the student welfare organisations decided to use Millum's food waste function for quick and easy registration of surplus food at universities.

We use the food waste module with its own app because it is easy to use in a system we already know. It's intuitive and straightforward, while it is easy to find the data.

Procurement, stocktaking, CO2 calculator, and food waste function - all gathered in one place

In addition to offering several necessary tools, many of which also have accompanying apps, the student welfare organisations chose Millum also because of the practical advantage of having everything gathered in one system easily accessible with just one login.

The student welfare organisations already used Millum's module for stocktaking as an efficient tool to gain control over inventory and kitchen economics, thereby reducing food waste through effective circulation of goods. Having all sustainable tools gathered in one place, along with other useful features, was considered a significant advantage.

We chose Millum's CO2 calculator to avoid having to deal with multiple systems. It's great that this additional feature has become available.
